Round Trip or One Way: Which Should You Book?

Every city in the list above can be booked as a round-trip car rental or as a one-way drop. The right choice depends on what you will do once you reach.

Cities by Purpose of Travel

Business and industrial cities

  • Surat: diamonds, textiles and the Hazira industrial belt. Traders often plan several market visits in one day, so a car with driver saves a lot of time.
  • Vadodara: engineering, chemical and pharma units in Makarpura, Padra and nearby GIDC estates, plus the university and government offices. Close enough for an easy same-day return.
  • Bharuch: the gateway to the Dahej and Ankleshwar chemical zones, popular with plant visits and audits.
  • Rajkot: engineering, auto parts and machine tools, with many small units around the city.
  • Jamnagar: brass parts manufacturing and large refinery complexes nearby. It is a longer drive, so most business travellers plan an overnight stay.
  • Gandhidham: close to Kandla port and the Mundra belt; logistics, shipping and salt companies make up much of the travel here.

Family and leisure trips

  • Bhuj: the base for Kutch — the white Rann, handicraft villages and Mandvi beach. Usually a 2–4 day trip.
  • Bhavnagar: a gateway to Palitana and the Alang coast, and a common family visit for Saurashtra relatives.
  • Gandhinagar: Akshardham, the Secretariat and GIFT City; easy to combine with Ahmedabad errands.
  • Anand and Nadiad: short drives for family visits, colleges and Amul Dairy.

North Gujarat towns

Mehsana, Palanpur, Deesa, Himmatnagar and Visnagar see a steady flow of business travel linked to dairy cooperatives, agriculture, oil and ceramics, along with family visits. Most are within 1.5–3 hours of Ahmedabad, so a same-day round trip is usually comfortable, and you can add a stop at Modhera, Patan or Ambaji if time allows.

Many trips are a mix — a business meeting in Rajkot followed by a family dinner, or a wedding in Jamnagar with a temple visit on the way. A car with driver handles both without changing plans.

Rough Travel Times From Ahmedabad

These are approximate one-way driving times in normal traffic, without long stops. Use them to decide whether a same-day return is realistic.

DestinationApprox. driving timeSame-day return?
Gandhinagar45 minutes – 1 hourEasily
Nadiad, Anand1–1.5 hoursEasily
Vadodara1.5–2 hoursYes
BharuchAbout 3 hoursYes, with an early start

Jamnagar, Gandhidham, BhujAbout 5–6.5 hoursBetter with an overnight stay

Traffic at the city ends often matters more than highway speed. Leaving Ahmedabad before the morning rush, or returning after the evening peak, can save a surprising amount of time.

Booking a Car for Visiting Guests or Colleagues

Companies and families often book a city rental for someone else — a visiting auditor, an out-of-town client, or relatives arriving for a function. A few details make this go smoothly:

  • Share the traveller’s name and mobile number, and pass the driver’s contact on to them.
  • Mention who will settle the bill and whether tolls and parking should be paid on the way or added at the end.
  • Give a contact person at the destination, in case gate passes or directions are needed.
  • If plans may run late, say so in advance so the driver can plan his rest and the return.

What a Typical City Visit Looks Like

  1. Early start from Ahmedabad: leaving between 6 and 7 a.m. gets you past city traffic and onto the highway quickly.
  2. Breakfast stop on the way: highway restaurants are common on all major routes.
  3. Your work or visits in the city: the driver takes you from point to point and waits at each stop.
  4. Return or overnight stay: for cities more than about 250 km away (Jamnagar, Gandhidham, Bhuj), consider staying the night rather than driving back late.

Planning Tips for City Trips

Give the full list of addresses

If you have three factory visits and a hotel check-in, share them all when booking. The driver can plan the order and you get a better idea of total kilometres.

Check industrial area access

Some plants and ports have gate passes or security checks for vehicles. Ask your host whether the car needs to be registered in advance and share the vehicle number once the booking is confirmed.

Match the car to the trip

  • One or two executives with laptop bags: a Swift Dzire is enough.
  • A family of five with luggage for a wedding: an Ertiga or Innova Crysta.
  • Client visits where comfort matters: Innova Crysta, or a premium sedan on request.

Watch out for peak dates

Wedding season (roughly October to February), Diwali and long weekends see heavy demand on every route. Book a few days ahead. During monsoon, allow extra time on coastal and Kutch roads.

Understand the billing

Round trips are charged per km, with a minimum distance per day and a driver allowance. A same-day visit to a nearby city may still be billed at the daily minimum, so check the taxi tariff before deciding between a round trip and two one-way rides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit two cities on the same rental?

Yes. For example, Vadodara and Bharuch, or Rajkot and Jamnagar, can be covered on one trip. Tell us both cities when booking so we can plan the route and estimate the distance.

Can the car pick me up from my hotel in the other city the next morning?

Yes. On an overnight round trip the driver stays in the city and reports to your hotel at the agreed time.

Is a round trip worth it for a city that is only 1–2 hours away?

If you need the car to move around after you arrive, usually yes. If you only need a drop and will stay on, a one-way taxi is usually more economical.
