Most people we drive there are going to the Amul dairy, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand Agricultural University or the colleges in Vallabh Vidyanagar. Others are visiting relatives, travelling for an interview or admission, or picking up a student at the start or end of term.

The drive from Ahmedabad to Anand

There are two practical ways to get there. The Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway (NE1) is the quicker and smoother option. It has limited exits and fewer trucks weaving across lanes, and you leave it at the Anand side and drive the last stretch into town. The older national highway through Nadiad has more traffic and more junctions, but it works better if you need to stop in Nadiad on the way.

Your driver will usually take the expressway unless you ask otherwise. The expressway is tolled. As with all our round trips, toll and parking are paid separately from the per-km fare.

Getting out of Ahmedabad takes the longest. A pickup in Bodakdev or Satellite at 9:30 am can spend 40 minutes reaching the expressway start near CTM. If you leave before 8 am, the whole trip often takes about 1.5 hours. Coming back towards Ahmedabad in the evening, expect slow traffic from the expressway end into the eastern parts of the city.

There are food courts and fuel stops on the expressway. Most passengers don’t need a break on a trip this short, though. Families with small children sometimes stop once for tea and a washroom.

Why people travel to Anand

• Amul and the dairy institutions: Anand is closely linked to India’s cooperative dairy movement. Business visitors, suppliers and study groups come for meetings at Amul and NDDB, and school or college groups come for visits arranged in advance.
• Education: Anand Agricultural University, the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) and the many colleges in neighbouring Vallabh Vidyanagar bring a steady stream of students and parents, especially around admissions and convocations.
• Family and business: Anand and the surrounding Charotar area have strong family ties with Ahmedabad, so weddings and family functions fill the calendar from roughly October to February.
• Onward travel: Anand Junction is on the main Ahmedabad–Mumbai rail line, and some passengers prefer to board or get off there.

Round trip or one-way: what the 300 km rule means here

Ahmedabad to Anand and back is only about 150–200 km, depending on where in each city you start and finish. Our outstation round trips are billed on a minimum of 300 km per day, counted from our garage and back. A same-day return to Anand will therefore usually be charged as 300 km, even if the odometer shows less.

Here is how to decide:

• Just a drop or a pickup? Book the Ahmedabad to Anand one-way taxi. You pay for one direction only, and the one-way fare is quoted separately.
• Need the car to wait while you attend a meeting or an admission process? A round trip is right. Since you are paying for 300 km anyway, it makes sense to add a second stop, such as Nadiad, Vadtal or Vadodara, within the same day.

Because the 300 km minimum leaves spare kilometres, many customers combine Anand with nearby places. Some common pairings:

Pickup and drop points

We pick up from homes, offices and hotels anywhere in Ahmedabad, including Navrangpura, Prahlad Nagar, Maninagar, Chandkheda and Bopal. We also collect from Ahmedabad Junction (Kalupur) and from the airport if you are flying in for a meeting in Anand.

Common drop points in Anand include the Amul and NDDB areas, the university campus, Vallabh Vidyanagar’s college and hostel areas, Anand railway station and hotels along the main roads. Choosing a vehicle for an Anand trip
