Ahmedabad Sightseeing Cab Service

Cabs service in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is a UNESCO World Heritage City, and the easiest way to see its highlights in a day is with a private cab and a driver who knows the roads. Happy Car Rental offers sightseeing cabs for families, friends and visitors who want to explore at their own pace.

Places You Can Cover in a Day

  • Sabarmati Ashram — Mahatma Gandhi’s home on the riverfront.
  • Adalaj Stepwell — the intricately carved five-storey stepwell north of the city.
  • Old city and pols — Jama Masjid, Sidi Saiyyed Mosque and the heritage lanes.
  • Sabarmati Riverfront and Atal Bridge — best in the evening.
  • Kankaria Lake and Science City — popular with families.
  • Manek Chowk — the famous night food market.

For a ready-made plan, see our one-day Ahmedabad sightseeing itinerary and best places to visit with a local cab driver.

How Sightseeing Hire Works

  • Book a full-day package (8 hours / 80 km) — see current rates on our taxi tariff.
  • Extra hours and kilometres are charged as per the tariff.
  • Your driver waits while you visit each place, so you can leave bags and shopping in the car.

Tips for a Good Day Out

  • Start early — Sabarmati Ashram and Adalaj are pleasant in the morning.
  • Keep the riverfront and Manek Chowk for the evening.
  • Groups of 5–6 are more comfortable in an Ertiga or Innova Crysta.

Sample Routes: Half Day, Full Day and Evening

Ahmedabad’s sights are spread across both banks of the Sabarmati, so the order in which you visit them matters more than the number of places on your list. Below are three plans our drivers often follow. Treat them as starting points and adjust to your interests and pace.

Morning heritage (about 4 hours)

  1. Start around 7:30–8 am at Sabarmati Ashram, while the riverside is still cool and quiet.
  2. Cross into the old city for Sidi Saiyyed Mosque with its famous stone lattice window, then Bhadra Fort, Teen Darwaza and Jama Masjid, which sit close to each other.
  3. Walk a short stretch of a pol (the old gated neighbourhoods) to see carved wooden houses and bird feeders.
  4. Finish with breakfast or an early lunch before the afternoon heat.

Guided heritage walks of the old city usually start early in the morning. If you join one, the driver can drop you at the starting point and meet you where the walk ends.

Full day with Adalaj and Gandhinagar

Add the northern sights to the morning plan. Adalaj Stepwell lies on the way towards Gandhinagar, so it pairs naturally with Akshardham. A common order is old city in the morning, Adalaj around midday, Akshardham in the afternoon and back to Ahmedabad by evening. This keeps the driving in one direction instead of zig-zagging across the city.

Evening riverfront and food

  • Sabarmati Riverfront and Atal Bridge around sunset, when the lights come on.
  • Kankaria Lake for a walk around the lakefront — lively with families in the evening.
  • Law Garden street market for handicrafts and textiles.
  • Manek Chowk for dinner once the night food stalls open.

Group Sights by Area to Save Time

City traffic, especially around Ashram Road, Relief Road and the bridges at peak hours, can eat into your package. Grouping nearby places keeps more of your day for sightseeing and less for sitting in the car.

AreaPlaces to group togetherGood time
Walled city (east bank)Jama Masjid, Bhadra Fort, Teen Darwaza, Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, the pols, Manek ChowkEarly morning; Manek Chowk again at night

Most attractions have a weekly closing day or changing timings, so check before you go and tell the driver which places matter most. If something is closed, he can suggest a nearby alternative.

Seasons and Times of Day to Plan Around

  • November to February: the most comfortable months, with pleasant mornings and evenings. This is also wedding season, so book your car a few days ahead.
  • March to June: very hot afternoons. Plan sightseeing for early morning and after sunset, and use the middle of the day for an indoor stop, a long lunch or rest at your hotel.
  • Monsoon (roughly June to September): the stepwell and riverfront look lovely after rain, but allow extra time for waterlogged roads and slower traffic.

Within any season, sightseeing by car is easiest on weekday mornings. Weekend evenings at the riverfront and Kankaria can be crowded, and parking near them fills up fast.

Festival Visits: Uttarayan and Navratri

Uttarayan (mid-January)

During the kite festival, the old city’s rooftops fill with families flying kites from dawn to dusk. If you have friends or a host with access to a pol rooftop, it is a memorable experience. Roads in the walled city become very busy, so let the driver drop you near the area and agree on a pickup point rather than trying to drive deep into the lanes.

Navratri (usually September or October)

Garba nights run late and many venues are on the city’s outskirts. A sightseeing day can flow into a garba evening if you plan the timing — but remember the package hours. Our Navratri travel guide explains how to plan late-night travel in garba season.

Photography Spots

  • Adalaj Stepwell: soft light in the morning; the carved levels look striking from the upper landings looking down.
  • Sidi Saiyyed Mosque: the stone lattice photographs well from the street side.
  • Atal Bridge and the riverfront: sunset and after dark for the lit-up skyline.
  • The pols: doorways, wooden brackets and the chabutro bird feeders. Always ask before photographing residents or the inside of homes.
  • Kankaria Lake: evening reflections on the water.

Some places restrict photography or tripods, and religious sites expect modest dress and shoes removed. Keep a scarf and socks in the car for hot floors.

Food Stops Along the Way

Gujarati food is part of the sightseeing. Ask the driver for a stop for a Gujarati thali at lunch, or for local snacks like khaman, dhokla and fafda-jalebi in the morning. In the evening, Law Garden has street stalls nearby, and Manek Chowk turns from a jewellery market by day into a busy food street at night — try the sandwiches, pav bhaji and kulfi. Since the old city has little parking, the driver will usually drop you near the market and wait a short walk away.

Practical Tips for Your Sightseeing Day

  • Share your hotel or home pickup point and the list of places when you book, so the route is planned before the car arrives.
  • Carry water, a cap and sunscreen; keep a light shawl in winter evenings.
  • Leave shopping bags in the locked car rather than carrying them through the old city.
  • If you are arriving by air or train, you can start sightseeing straight from an airport pickup and finish with a drop to your hotel.
  • Want to go beyond the city? Our heritage tour by road to Patan and Modhera makes a good second day.
  • For larger families, an Innova Crysta gives everyone room to stretch between stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the plan during the day?

Yes. The car is yours for the package hours — just stay within the hours and kilometres, or pay for the extra as per the tariff.

Can we include Gandhinagar (Akshardham)?

Yes, it fits into a full-day plan. Mention it when booking so we can plan the route.

Can the car drive into the old city lanes?

Many pols are too narrow for cars. The driver will drop you at the nearest convenient point, wait nearby and pick you up when you finish walking.

Is a half-day sightseeing trip possible?

Yes. A morning heritage loop of about four hours works well. Ask us when booking how a shorter trip is charged — the taxi tariff shows the current packages.

Which months are most comfortable for an Ahmedabad city tour by cab?

November to February is the most comfortable. In summer, plan sightseeing for early mornings and evenings and rest during the afternoon.
