How Car Rental Fares Work in Ahmedabad

Car tariff Ahmedabad

Taxi fares can look confusing — per km, per day, minimum kilometres, driver allowance, tolls. This page explains how car rental fares work at Happy Car Rental, so you know exactly what you are paying for. For current rates, see our taxi tariff.

1. Local Use: 8 Hours / 80 km Package

  • For use within Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, you pay a fixed package price for 8 hours and 80 km.
  • If you go beyond that, extra hours and extra kilometres are charged at the rates on the tariff.
  • A small driver allowance applies to local packages.

2. Outstation Round Trips: Per km

  • Outstation trips are charged per kilometre — ₹11 for a sedan (Dzire / Etios), ₹14 for an Ertiga, ₹18 for an Innova Crysta, with larger vehicles on the tariff. Kilometres are counted from our garage to our garage.
  • There is a minimum of 300 km per day, even if you drive less that day.
  • A driver allowance per day — ₹400 for cars, ₹500 for the Winger, Tempo Traveller and Toofan — covers the driver’s food and stay.

3. One-Way Drops

For popular routes we offer fixed one-way fares — you pay for one way only, with no return charge. Our homepage lists one-way fares that include toll and driver charges.

4. Charges That May Be Extra

  • Tolls and parking on round trips.
  • State entry permits when travelling outside Gujarat (for example to Rajasthan or Maharashtra).
  • Waiting time beyond what was agreed.

Example

A 2-day round trip of 450 km in a car with a 300 km/day minimum is billed for at least 600 km (2 days × 300 km), plus 2 days of driver allowance and any tolls or parking.

Worked Scenarios, Step by Step

The single example above covers the basics. Real trips are rarely that tidy, so here are three common situations worked through in steps. We use letters in place of rupee rates because rates vary by car and change over time; take the actual figures for your car from the tariff.

Scenario 1: A local day that overruns

You book an 8 hours / 80 km package for a family day out: Sabarmati Ashram in the morning, lunch on CG Road, shopping in Satellite and Kankaria in the evening. The car is with you for 10 hours and the trip meter shows 104 km.

  1. Base: one local package for your car (call it P).
  2. Extra time: 10 − 8 = 2 hours, so 2 × the extra-hour rate (H).
  3. Extra distance: 104 − 80 = 24 km, so 24 × the extra-km rate (K).
  4. Total: P + 2H + 24K, plus any parking you asked the driver to use.

Both overruns are charged, not just the larger one. If you think a day may run long, say so when booking so the driver can plan his own schedule.

Scenario 2: A three-day Saurashtra trip with a daily minimum

You hire an Ertiga for three days: Ahmedabad to a temple town on day one, a slow sightseeing day there on day two, and back on day three. The odometer shows 760 km garage to garage, and the car’s minimum is, say, 300 km per day.

  1. Minimum billable distance: 3 days × 300 km = 900 km.
  2. Compare with actual: 760 km is less than 900 km, so 900 km is billed.
  3. Distance charge: 900 × the per-km rate for an Ertiga (R).
  4. Driver allowance: 3 days × ₹400.
  5. Add tolls and parking at actual cost.

Notice that the quiet middle day still counts towards the minimum. If instead you had driven 1,050 km, you would simply pay for 1,050 km, because actual distance is higher than the minimum.

Scenario 3: One-way drop or round trip?

You need to get from Ahmedabad to Vadodara for a meeting. There are two ways to book it.

  • One-way drop: a fixed fare for the single journey. Our homepage one-way fares include toll and driver charge. You make your own way back, or book another one-way car.
  • Round trip: the car waits for you and brings you back. You pay per km for the full garage-to-garage distance, subject to the daily minimum, plus driver allowance and tolls.

If you are coming back the same day, a round trip often makes sense because the minimum km covers the waiting car. If you are staying overnight or longer, two one-way trips usually work out better, since a round trip would bill a daily minimum for days the car sits idle. Interstate Permits Explained

Taxis are registered as commercial vehicles in their home state. When a Gujarat taxi crosses into another state, the operator usually has to pay that state’s entry tax or permit fee at the border or online before entry.

  • When it applies: trips to places like Udaipur, Mount Abu or Nathdwara in Rajasthan, or Mumbai, Nashik and Pune in Maharashtra.
  • How much: it varies by state, by vehicle type and by how many days the car will be in that state, so we quote it per trip.
  • How it is billed: on round trips, normally added at actual cost. Ask whether it is already included in your quote.

If you are planning a Rajasthan circuit, our Ahmedabad to Rajasthan taxi page covers routes and timing.

Tolls on Highways and Expressways

Most intercity routes out of Ahmedabad have toll plazas. The Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway (NE1) is tolled, as are many stretches of national highway towards Rajkot, Udaipur and Mumbai.

  • On round trips, tolls are paid as you go and added to the bill at actual cost.
  • A round trip passes each plaza twice, so expect tolls in both directions.
  • Choosing a slower non-toll road can save the toll but adds time and sometimes kilometres. Ask the driver which makes more sense for your route.

Parking at Airports, Stations and Temples

Parking is a small cost but it adds up on a busy day. Common places where you may pay are the SVPI airport pickup area, the railway stations at Kalupur and Sabarmati, malls, and the parking lots at temple towns such as Dwarka, Somnath and Ambaji. On round trips and local packages, parking is generally paid at actual cost; for airport pickups, ask whether parking is already part of the transfer fare.

Waiting Time: Package versus Transfer

Waiting is treated differently depending on how the car is booked, and this often surprises people.

  • Local package: the car is yours for 8 hours. Time spent waiting outside a shop, office or hospital simply counts towards those hours, so there is no separate waiting charge until you go past the package.
  • Outstation round trip: waiting at the destination is part of the day you have already booked, covered by the daily minimum and driver allowance.
  • Airport, station or city transfer: the fare covers a drive from one point to another. If the driver has to wait well beyond the agreed time, a waiting charge may apply — confirm the terms when booking.

If you expect to keep a car waiting for a long time on what started as a transfer, it can be simpler to convert it into a local package instead.

Questions to Ask Any Operator

Whether you book with us or anyone else, these questions make fares easy to compare like for like.

  1. Is kilometre counting from the garage or from my pickup point?
  2. What is the minimum km per day for this car, and how is a day counted?
  3. Is the driver allowance per day or per night, and how much is it?
  4. Are tolls, parking and state permits included or extra?
  5. For a local package, what are the extra-hour and extra-km rates?
  6. Is there a charge for waiting, or for very early or late starts?
  7. Can I have the quote in writing on WhatsApp?

Comparing quotes that answer all seven questions avoids the common trap of a low headline rate with several extras added later. You can also read whether renting a car or booking a taxi costs less in Ahmedabad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a minimum km per day?

Because the car and driver are reserved for you all day, even if you travel only a short distance.

Can I get a fixed all-inclusive quote?

Yes. Share your route and dates and we will quote the total, telling you clearly what is included.

Do I pay the driver’s food and hotel separately?

No. On outstation trips the daily driver allowance (₹400 per day for cars, ₹500 for the Winger, Tempo Traveller and Toofan) is meant to cover the driver’s food and stay, so you do not need to arrange these yourself.

Are tolls included in a one-way fare?

Our homepage one-way fares are toll and driver charge inclusive. For routes that are not listed, or that cross into another state, ask us to confirm what the quote includes.

What if I end up driving less than I planned?

On outstation round trips you are billed for the larger of actual km or the daily minimum, so driving less does not reduce the bill below that minimum. On a local package, the package price applies even if you use fewer than 80 km.
