Ahmedabad to Saputara Taxi Service
Saputara, in the Dang district on the Sahyadri range near the Maharashtra border, is the only hill station in Gujarat. Families from Ahmedabad go for the cooler weather, the lake and the green hills. The monsoon brings the biggest crowds, when the waterfalls are running and the hills are covered in cloud.
At about 390–410 km it is a 7–8 hour drive, ending on winding ghat roads. Happy Car Rental sends a driver used to hill roads, with a Dzire, Ertiga, Innova Crysta or a larger vehicle for groups. Book on +91 76000 09227.

The drive: plains first, ghats at the end
Most of the distance is on NE1 and NH48, heading south past Vadodara and Bharuch towards Surat. From there the car leaves the national highway for state roads through south Gujarat’s farmland and forest. The last stretch climbs into the Dang hills on hairpin bends with steep drops on one side.
- Start early: leaving Ahmedabad around 5–6 am means you reach the ghat section in daylight. Driving the bends after dark, especially in rain or fog, is slower and more tiring.
- Motion sickness: if anyone is prone to it, have a light breakfast, put them in a front or middle-row seat and ask the driver to pull over when needed.
- Supplies: carry water and snacks, because there are fewer shops on the hill section than on the highway.
- Breaks: a halfway stop around Bharuch or the Surat outskirts keeps the day manageable for children and elders.
Monsoon: the main season
From roughly June to September, Saputara is at its greenest. Waterfalls appear along the hillsides and cloud often settles over the lake. In recent years Gujarat Tourism has held a monsoon festival here, and weekends fill up quickly, so book your hotel and car well in advance.
The same rain makes the ghat road harder going. There is fog on the bends, the road surface gets slippery, and small landslips sometimes slow traffic. The driver will go slowly and may wait out a heavy shower. Build in extra time, and do not plan a tight return for the same evening.
October to February is cool and clear, which is good for sightseeing and photography. In summer the hills stay noticeably more pleasant than the plains, which makes Saputara a popular escape in May.
Whatever the season, pack a light jacket or shawl, because evenings on the hill are cooler than you might expect after the drive through the plains. In the monsoon, add an umbrella, a rain jacket and shoes with a good grip for wet viewpoints and the path to the falls. Keep a change of clothes in a bag inside the car rather than in the boot, in case you get soaked.
What to see in and around Saputara
- Saputara Lake: the centre of the town, with boating and a walking path around it.
- Sunset Point and Valley View: for views over the Dang forest; there is a ropeway on the sunset side.
- Table Point: a flat-topped hill with open views, popular in the late afternoon.
- Gira Falls near Waghai: on the way up or down, and at its fullest in the monsoon.
Viewpoint parking is limited at peak times. The driver can drop you close to the entrance and park where space allows.
How long to stay
Saputara is not a day trip. The round trip is roughly 800 km, so plan at least two days.
| Plan | Outline |
|---|---|
| 2 days / 1 night | Day 1: drive up, evening at the lake. Day 2: viewpoints in the morning, then drive home. |
| 3 days / 2 nights | A relaxed version with a full day for Gira Falls, Table Point and the ropeway. |
| 4–5 days | Continue across the border to Nashik, Trimbakeshwar and Shirdi before heading back. |
Nashik is only about 80 km from Saputara, so many families add the pilgrimage circuit; see the Nasik, Shirdi and Trimbakeshwar taxi page. Crossing into Maharashtra means an interstate border tax for the vehicle, so confirm it when booking.
On a round trip, days when the car hardly moves in Saputara are still billed at the 300 km daily minimum, with driver allowance for each day. The Taxi Tariff page has the per-km rates. If you only need a drop and have arranged your own return, the Ahmedabad to Saputara one-way taxi is quoted separately.
Pickup and drop
We pick up from your home anywhere in Ahmedabad and drop you at your hotel in Saputara, so you do not have to carry bags around the lake area. For families coming from Surat, or breaking the journey there, see our Ahmedabad to Surat taxi page.
Choosing a vehicle for the hills
- Dzire: fine for a couple or a small family with light luggage.
- Ertiga: six seats and more headroom; a good balance for families.
- Innova Crysta: the more comfortable ride on the bends, and easier for elders on a long day.
- Winger, Tempo Traveller or Toofan: school groups, office outings and joint families. Larger vehicles manage the ghats at a slower pace.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the drive from Ahmedabad to Saputara?
About 390–410 km, usually 7–8 hours. The last hill section is slow, and in the monsoon it can take longer.
Is the ghat road safe to travel in the monsoon?
Yes, with care. Travel in daylight and allow extra time for fog and wet roads. Our drivers slow down on the bends and will stop if visibility gets too poor.
How many days should we plan for Saputara?
At least two days with one night. Three days is more relaxed and leaves time for Gira Falls and the viewpoints.
Can we combine Saputara with Nashik and Shirdi?
Yes. Nashik is about 80 km from Saputara, so a four- to five-day trip can cover both. Interstate border tax applies once you enter Maharashtra; confirm it when booking.
