Ahmedabad to Sasan Gir Taxi Service
Sasan Gir is the village at the edge of Gir National Park, home of the Asiatic lion. People come here mainly for a safari, so the trip has to be planned around permit slots that you book separately — the drive is fitted around those, not the other way round.
We handle the road part: a chauffeur-driven car from your door in Ahmedabad to your resort in Sasan and, on round trips, a car that waits through the safari days, takes you to Devalia or Somnath, and brings you home. Dzire, Ertiga, Innova Crysta and group vehicles are available on +91 76000 09227.

Before you book the car: safari permits
A taxi gets you to Sasan, but it cannot take you into the park. Safaris in Gir run in forest-department-approved jeeps on fixed routes and time slots, and permits are booked through the official Gujarat Forest Department online booking system. Safari permits are not part of the taxi booking.
- Book your safari slots first, then fix the car dates around them.
- Carry the same photo ID you used when booking the permit.
- The park is typically closed for safaris during the monsoon months, roughly mid-June to mid-October. Check current rules and opening dates before you plan.
- If jungle safari permits are sold out, the Devalia Safari Park (Gir Interpretation Zone), a short drive from Sasan, offers safaris inside a fenced area. It is also booked separately.
- Weekends, Diwali and the Christmas–New Year period sell out early.
Timing the drive with the safari slots
The drive is about 365–410 km depending on the route, around 7 to 8 hours. The common route runs via Rajkot, Gondal and Junagadh, then on smaller roads through villages at the forest edge. The last part is narrower and slower, with cattle and the occasional wild animal on the road, so it is not a stretch to rush.
Morning safaris start around dawn, so you cannot leave Ahmedabad and catch one the same day. A plan that works for most families:
- Day 1 — leave Ahmedabad after an early breakfast, reach Sasan by late afternoon, rest.
- Day 2 — dawn safari, breakfast, then Devalia or a half-day visit to Somnath; an afternoon safari if you booked two slots.
- Day 3 — one more morning safari if you wish, then the drive home.
Avoid booking an afternoon safari on the arrival day unless you are starting very early — a delay on the road could cost you the permit.
On the road inside the Gir area
- Some roads through the sanctuary have speed limits and time restrictions; drivers follow local forest rules, even if that means a slightly longer route.
- If you spot a lion or leopard near the road, stay in the car and don’t ask the driver to stop in the middle of the road or follow the animal.
- Keep music low and don’t throw plastic or food out of the window.
What to carry for safari days
- Layers — winter dawns in Gir are cold, especially in an open jeep, while summer afternoons are hot and dusty.
- Muted clothing — earthy colours are less distracting to wildlife than bright ones.
- Water and a small snack — safaris run for a few hours with no stops for food.
- Binoculars and a zoom lens — sightings are often at a distance.
Leave large bags in the car or at the resort; the jeeps have little space for luggage.
Combining Gir with the coast and temples
Sasan is close to several Saurashtra destinations, which is why it is rarely a stand-alone trip:
- Somnath — around 45 km; see our Ahmedabad to Somnath taxi page.
- Junagadh — around 55–60 km, for Girnar and the Uparkot fort.
- Diu — roughly 100 km via Una for a couple of days at the beach; see Ahmedabad to Diu taxi.
A popular family loop is Ahmedabad – Sasan Gir – Somnath – Diu – Ahmedabad over four or five days. Our 5 days / 4 nights Dwarka–Somnath–Diu package can be a starting point — ask when booking whether it can be adjusted to include Gir.
Pickup and drop
We pick up from any address in Ahmedabad. In Sasan, resorts and hotels are spread along the roads around the village and the Sinh Sadan area, where jungle safaris begin. Send the driver the resort’s location pin, as several properties have similar names.
If you only need to get there — for example, you are continuing by train or with friends — the Ahmedabad to Sasan Gir one-way taxi is the simpler choice.
Which vehicle for a Gir trip
You don’t need an SUV for Gir: the car stays on regular roads and the safaris use forest jeeps. Choose by group size and luggage — a Dzire for couples, an Ertiga for a family of five or six, an Innova Crysta for a more comfortable ride on the long drive. Groups of friends can take a Tempo Traveller or Winger, but remember that each safari jeep has a limited number of seats set by the forest department, so a group of ten will need more than one permit and jeep.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Sasan Gir from Ahmedabad?
About 365–410 km depending on the route, which takes around 7 to 8 hours. The last stretch through forest-edge villages is slower, so plan to arrive in daylight.
Does the taxi booking include the lion safari?
No. Safari permits are booked separately through the official Gujarat Forest Department system, and safaris run in approved forest jeeps. Book the permit first, then the car.
Is Gir open during the monsoon?
The park is typically closed for safaris during the monsoon, roughly mid-June to mid-October. Dates and rules can change, so check the current schedule before you plan the trip.
Can we visit Somnath from Sasan Gir on the same day?
Yes. Somnath is roughly 45 km away, so you can fit a morning safari, a visit to Somnath and an evening back at your resort into one day on a round-trip booking.
