Una is a busy market town in Gir Somnath district, just north of the Diu border. Many people book this route because they have family, a function or business in the town and nearby villages; others use Una as the gateway to Diu, Ahmedpur Mandvi beach and the eastern side of the Gir hills.

Two ways to reach Una

There is no single fast highway to Una, which is why 350–360 km takes 7 to 8 hours. Drivers usually choose between two approaches:

The driver checks road conditions before setting out and picks the approach. Both include two-lane stretches with village traffic, tractors and livestock, so average speeds are lower than on the Rajkot highway. Una as a gateway

• Diu — the Union Territory begins a short drive south of Una. The same car can take you across; border entry tax for the vehicle may apply. See Ahmedabad to Diu taxi for details.
• Ahmedpur Mandvi beach — a long sandy beach on the Gujarat side, right next to the Diu border, with water sports when they are operating. Because it is in Gujarat, Diu entry formalities don’t apply.
• Tulsishyam — a temple with hot-water springs in the Gir hills inland from Una, reached by a forest road.
• Somnath — roughly 85–90 km west along the coast, an easy add-on day.

Staying in Una or in Diu?

For a beach holiday most travellers sleep in Diu and only pass through Una. Staying in Una makes more sense when you are attending a function in town or a nearby village, when you want Ahmedpur Mandvi and Tulsishyam without entering Diu, or when Diu hotels are full over a long weekend. Una has hotels for business travellers and visiting families, but rooms go quickly during the wedding season, so book ahead.

A day out from Una

If you are in Una for a function and have a free day, the car can make a simple loop: a morning at Ahmedpur Mandvi beach while it is still cool, lunch in Diu, and Tulsishyam in the late afternoon before heading back to town. Keep the Diu border tax in mind if you cross, and avoid the forest road to Tulsishyam after dark.

For a longer pilgrimage, Somnath works as a separate day: leave Una early, attend the morning darshan and Bhalka Tirth, and be back by evening. Ask for both when booking so the kilometres are planned into the trip.

Family functions and village trips

A lot of travel to Una is for weddings, social functions and visits to relatives in the villages around the town. A few practical points:

• Share a location pin — village addresses are hard to find by name, and it saves time on the last few kilometres.
• Multi-day stays — if the car will stay with you for several days, the driver allowance is charged per day; confirm the driver’s stay arrangements when booking.
• The 300 km daily minimum — on a round trip, a four-day function visit is billed at least 1,200 km even if the car spends two days waiting. If you don’t need it in Una, a one-way drop each way can work out better.
• Wedding parties — for 9–11 people with luggage and gifts, a Winger, Tempo Traveller or Toofan is simpler than two cars.

Pickup and drop

We pick up from anywhere in Ahmedabad, including very early starts for function days. In Una, common drops are the town centre and market area, hotels on the main road, and villages in the surrounding taluka. For a drop-only trip, book the Ahmedabad to Una one-way taxi.

Choosing a vehicle

Because the roads after Bhavnagar or Amreli are slower and bumpier in places, comfort matters more than on the Rajkot highway. A Dzire is fine for two or three passengers.
