Ahmedabad to Nathdwara Taxi Service

Nathdwara, the small Rajasthan town that grew around the Shrinathji haveli, is a regular trip for Vaishnav families from Ahmedabad. Most visitors stay a night or two, and many turn it into a short Mewar tour with Udaipur, Eklingji, Haldighati or Kumbhalgarh added in.

We arrange round trips where the car and driver stay with you for the whole tour, as well as one-way drops to Nathdwara. Families usually take an Ertiga or Innova Crysta; larger groups and community trips go in a Winger, Tempo Traveller or Toofan. This page covers the trip and the region. For darshan planning, see our Shrinathji page.

Getting to Nathdwara

The route follows NH48 from Ahmedabad through Himmatnagar and Shamlaji into Rajasthan, then through the Aravallis to Udaipur. The driver skirts Udaipur and continues north for roughly 45–50 km, passing Eklingji (Kailashpuri) on the way. Expect about five and a half to six and a half hours, depending on traffic and stops.

Because Nathdwara is a little beyond Udaipur, a midday start puts you in town by evening. For a relaxed trip, leave Ahmedabad in the morning, stop for lunch on the way, and check in before dark.

Nathdwara beyond the temple

The town’s life revolves around the haveli, but there is more to see if you have a free afternoon:

  • Pichwai painting – Nathdwara is known for its painted cloth hangings of Shrinathji, and the lanes near the temple have studios and shops.
  • Statue of Belief (Vishwas Swaroopam) – a very tall statue of Lord Shiva on a hill at the edge of town, visible from the highway.
  • Markets – prasad, shringar items, sweets and textiles in the old bazaar.

If Udaipur is your main interest, our Udaipur taxi page covers the city in more detail.

Sample plans

  • Two days: drive in on day one with an Eklingji stop; temple and market the next morning, then head home.
  • Three days: add Haldighati and Rajsamand on the middle day, or spend it in Udaipur.
  • Four days: add Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur, then come back to Ahmedabad via Pindwara and Abu Road instead of retracing NH48.

On round trips, each day is billed for at least 300 km, counted from our garage, plus driver allowance per day. A short day of local sightseeing is still billed at the daily minimum, so a fuller day often gives better value. Rates are on the taxi tariff page.

Rajasthan border tax

Every Gujarat-registered taxi entering Rajasthan pays an entry tax at the border. On a multi-day Mewar tour, the permit has to cover the number of days you will be in the state, and the amount changes with vehicle size. It is charged on top of the fare. Tell us your full itinerary and we will confirm the tax when booking.

Where to stay

Nathdwara has two broad types of stay. Dharamshalas and guest houses run by trusts and community groups are close to the temple and convenient for early darshan, but they fill quickly at festivals and often have little or no parking. Hotels on the highway and the outskirts are a short drive from the temple and usually have proper parking, which makes life easier with a car. If you are travelling with elderly parents, stay as close to the temple as you can and let the driver handle the parking.

Practical tips for the Nathdwara trip

  • Share the full plan up front. If you might add Kumbhalgarh or a night in Udaipur, mention it when booking. The border permit and the driver’s schedule are then set for the right number of days.
  • Keep the morning free. The temple area is busiest in the morning. Do sightseeing such as Haldighati or Rajsamand in the afternoon, when the town is quieter.
  • Parking in the old town is tight. The driver will usually wait in a parking lot away from the temple lanes. Save his number and agree on pickup points in advance.
  • Carry cash for small expenses. Parking, shoe stands and local autos near the temple are small cash payments.
  • Weekends and long weekends fill up. Guest houses near the temple go quickly when Gujarat has a holiday, so book rooms before you book the car.

Vehicle and pickup

We pick up from any address in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, the airport or the railway stations. Families with luggage for two or three nights are comfortable in an Ertiga or Innova Crysta, and a Toofan or Tempo Traveller suits a mandal or extended family travelling together. If you only need a drop, an Ahmedabad to Nathdwara one-way taxi is the simpler option.
