Ahmedabad to Shrinathji (Nathdwara) Taxi for Darshan

For Pushtimarg Vaishnav families in Ahmedabad, a trip to Shrinathji in Nathdwara is part of the year, whether for a birthday, a new beginning, or simply because the heart calls. Darshan of Shrinathji, Krishna as a child lifting Govardhan, opens only for short windows through the day, so the whole trip has to be planned around those windows.

Happy Car Rental drivers know this rhythm. We time your departure, wait while you go for darshan, and keep the car ready between openings. Families travel in an Ertiga or Innova Crysta; larger satsang groups take a Winger, Tempo Traveller or Toofan.

How darshan works at Shrinathji

The temple follows the haveli tradition of the Pushtimarg, where Shrinathji is cared for as a young child. Through the day, he is woken, dressed, fed and allowed to rest, and the doors open to devotees only at points in this daily seva. Each opening, or jhanki, has its own name, such as Mangla in the early morning, Shringar, Gwal, Rajbhog, Utthapan, Bhog, Sandhya Aarti and Shayan.

Each darshan is brief, sometimes just a few minutes inside, and the doors stay closed in between. Timings shift with the season and on festival days, and can change at short notice, so we do not list fixed times. Check the notice boards near the temple or ask locally on the day.

Planning your drive around darshan

The single most useful tip is to arrive the day before the darshan that matters most to you. Leaving Ahmedabad late at night to reach for the first morning darshan sounds efficient, but it means a tired family and a tired driver on the Aravalli stretch of NH48.

A plan that works for most families:

  1. Leave Ahmedabad in the morning or right after lunch.
  2. Reach Nathdwara in the evening and attend an evening darshan if one is open.
  3. Stay overnight near the temple and attend one or more morning darshans.
  4. Start back by late morning or after the midday darshan, reaching Ahmedabad by night.

Queues start forming well before the doors open, especially for the first darshan of the day, so build in waiting time. The driver will rest while you are inside. On a round trip, each day is billed for at least 300 km, so a two-day trip like this suits the rate card well.

Festival crowds: Janmashtami, Annakut and Holi

Shrinathji’s big festivals draw devotees from across Gujarat, Rajasthan and Mumbai:

  • Janmashtami and Nand Mahotsav – midnight celebrations followed by festivities the next day; the lanes stay packed.
  • Annakut – the day after Diwali, when a mountain of food is offered. It is the most crowded time of the year, and rooms are often booked weeks ahead.
  • Holi (Dol Utsav) – colourful celebrations over several days.

At these times, the crowd surges each time the doors open. If you have elderly members or small children, consider a quieter day nearby or a calmer darshan later in the day. Fares may increase in festival seasons, so book your car early.

Dress, etiquette and what to carry

  • Wear modest, traditional clothes. Many devotees choose Indian dress for darshan.
  • Mobile phones and cameras are generally not allowed inside. Use the deposit counters near the entrance, or leave items in the car.
  • Footwear stays outside. Carry a small bag for slippers or use the shoe stands.
  • Men and women are often directed into separate lines, so agree on a meeting point beforehand.
  • Keep small children close and hold hands with elderly family members when the doors open.
  • Many families bring back temple prasad. Leave space in the car for boxes.

From the car to the haveli

Vehicles cannot reach the temple gate; the final approach is through narrow lanes. The driver drops you at the nearest permitted point or parking area, and you walk or take a local auto. Since phones cannot go in, fix a pickup time and place with the driver before you enter. That small step saves a lot of searching later.

If you plan more than one darshan in a day, you may prefer to stay close enough to walk back to your room between openings. The car then only needs to be used for meals outside town or the drive home.

Combining the trip

For Eklingji, Haldighati, Kumbhalgarh, places to stay and other trip details around the town, see our Nathdwara taxi page. Many families also spend a day in Udaipur on the way back. The Rajasthan border tax is extra and confirmed when booking.

Pickup and vehicle choice

We pick up from your home anywhere in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar, and from the airport or railway station if relatives are joining from out of town. For elderly devotees, an Innova Crysta is easier to get in and out of, and more restful over five hours. Satsang groups and extended families usually book an 11 seater Tempo Traveller or Toofan so everyone arrives for darshan together. Per-km rates and driver allowance are on our taxi tariff.
